Thats right,
C. Everett Koop, M.D, Former Surgeon General of the United States of America
I must say that I am honored to have seen Dr. Koop speak. I was a high school student perhaps in my Junior year. I was fortunate that my history teacher, Mr. Edward Engler knew that I had perhaps been interested in a medical career. He set it up that myself and my other friend, Jeff Pokorny, now Jeff Pokorny, M.D. were able to attend an event in Cleveland that Dr. Koop was visiting to give an audience.
Dr. Koops image is forever ingrained in the hearts and minds of Americans and dare I say, I do not believe there will ever be such a more competent and worldly physician to ever hold this particular holy office.
Dr. Koops message about anti-cigarette smoking is notorious. Probably antismoking all sorts of tobacco, but as a pipe and cigar aficionado, I will only advertise for selfish reasons the limitation of such antitobacco messages to cigarette smoking. Thats the real bad one, right?
Well, I was pleased that upon graduation from medical school, a close friend, Todd Bendis was able to somehow meet the surgeon general and indeed, get an autographed photograph that he gifted to me.
The inscription reads : To Dr. Brenner, all the best in your surgical career.
I proudly display it in my home office on the wall. :)
