I may be premature to make this comment, but I find this new story today strikes me as a little bit too much information at a stage of your career whereby its release does not promote your office, your dignity or your relevance. I refer to the story today that Senator Brown from Massachussetts reports that he was a victim of abuse as a child. http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/02/16/usa-politics-brown-idUSN1619673020110216
I must say that I am a little disconcerted about the Senators leadership as this seems to me to be premature to release his "memoirs". I might have thought such a revealation might have been more considerate to be released after his term of office (or at the least in his 3rd term or so).
I am not interested in pursuing this in so much as a political point, rather, I have my own concerns about Senator Browns mental health that he might wish to dispell this information in such an early time that he has been in office (Was he not elected in the last 4 years or so?). I would imagine that if it was justice he was seeking, he might go through proper channels, including physicians and lawyers and law enforcement. To direct his information at the American People by a press statement and a proposed book to me is negligent and quite possibly histrionic like attention seeking behavior. I am an American and I have the right to make this assessment given the information we have so far.
Clearly abuse is a very serious issue. That said, I comment any person who is able to firm themselves in life by absolveing their guilt, pain or suffering from such an event by bringing such things to the public stage or however it may be that they cope with this horrifying circumstance. That said, I must say that I am hoping that Mr. Brown will find the healing that he so desires and clearly may in fact need at this time. However, I must say that being that he is an elected leader, I question the circumstances by which he has chosen to come foward with this information. I just expect more from our elected leaders. Thats all. I do not in any way wish to convey the idea that one should keep these feelings and memories to oneself. But with vested national intersts in your hands, I feel it is necessary to forgo ones need to absolve these feelings during the beginning of ones term in office. Thats all. I do hope that Mr. Brown is capable of serving the remainder of his term without a major distraction or controversy surrounding his office.
