Dear Craig, | | |
We celebrate Chanukah today because 2,200 years ago the Maccabees restored the temple in Jerusalem and beat back an attempt from the Greek Hellenists to rob them of their history. But today an insidious revisionism is taking place, not by the “lunatic fringe”, but by the President of the Palestinian Authority.
That’s what I stressed to the French Foreign Minister, Alain Juppe (pictured top, right) when I met with him in Paris two weeks ago, and the point I also made to UNESCO Director General, Irina Bokova (pictured bottom, right) on the day the Palestinians were admitted to UNESCO.
“How can you grant the Palestinians full membership without protesting the remarks of their President before the General Assembly when he said, ‘I come before you today from the Holy Land, the land of Palestine, the land of divine messages, ascension of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him and the birthplace of Jesus Christ peace be upon him, to speak on behalf of the Palestinian people…’?”
Excluding any connection of the Jews to the Land of Israel? No Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, no Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel. I told them that, “Usually identity theft takes place without the victim’s knowledge, but Abbas robbed Jews of their heritage before millions in broad daylight -- and no one protested!”
That’s why your support is crucial especially now, at the end of the year, so that we can carry on our important work to stand up to revisionism, to confront anti-Semitism, to make the case before the court of public opinion, to the White House, in Europe’s Parliaments, in Congress, and at the United Nations.
Keep the menorah burning by lighting a candle with us. Happy Chanukah!
