While it may cost more to make than to use a penny, this is a symptom of prosperity. This is not the issue to improve your economy. I am going to have to chalk up the idea that Canada wants to lose its penny to the fact that they are not as American as America. Lets hope it never happens here. Lincoln is too necessary to lose a tribute. Remember, our money circulates as a memorial to men and women who have served in the USA. So if you pay a penny more for the penny someday, maybe you can think of it as a prosperous way to enliven our nation with the memorial of a great president.

I actually was one once who thought it was time to get rid of the penny. I didn't even realize that it cost a lot to offer them to the nation. I just at the time thought, perhaps we did not need to divide the dollar that many times and of course, it would cut down on loose change and noone would have to count out the exact penny change. Thinking this would be good, I wrote a letter to a friend about it and soon really felt foolish. Who would have thought that this was the way of the day today. Either or, are we so tight on time that we can not wait for exact change? Are we so petty that we disavow the minimal denomination of currency?
ReplyDeleteAnd whats to say about how we treat the little man when we all decide to get rid of the smallest coin denomination. I say that it is the same.
